Another comic book hero comes to life in the story of Hellboy played by Ron Perlman. This ultra powerful fire retardant being from outer space is kept secret by the government to fight off other freaks. The only thing that keeps him wanting to live is his love for the fire starter girl played by Selma Blair (Cruel Intentions). When Hellboys finder feels his life ending soon, he calls on a young FBI agent to look over the beast.
Their relationship is rocky but the young blood makes friends with Hellboy as they, a man-like amphibian and the fire starter have to join forces to save the world from a crazed Nazi (literally) that wants to open a portal and bring horrible beasts to Earth. The movie is a little over two hours long. Hellboy has a lot of action and a few comedic moments. Although Selma Blair is not hot enough to be a fire starter, the flick is a three out of five on my scale. If you like action but are tired of comic book rip-offs, I suggest waiting for Hellboy to come to video in a few months.
