Wireless Adaptor and Headset for iPod

Apple iPod users can very soon avail of a bluetooth wireless adaptor and headset for listening to music. Bangalore-based Impulsesoft Technologies which is a short range wireless company, has made a iWisa wireless adaptor and iWish wireless headset adaptor that have been licensed to US-based TEN Technology to be used in naviPlay. Naviplay is among the first bluetooth adaptors that has a remote control that can be attached to an I Pod.( I don't know if it is compatible with the mini). It will be out on the market within 3 or so months.
A company called Impulsesoft is providing the software and hardware for the naviPlay wireless adaptor and headset. It can be attached to the iPod dock while the headset adaptor allows the use of any stereo headphones or speakers with a standard 3.5 mm stereo plug. naviPlay also has an LCD display and buttons for remote audio functions, playlist and menu navigation. They are currently making a "multizone car entertainment system" which you can use your iPod to listen to. Picture and story Taken From

UK News: BBC Technology shows on the Web

As a ex-employee of the BBC I'd like to point out something those of you outside the UK may find of interest. (in fact to be honest in strange turn of fate these shows are not broadcast in the UK, except via the web. Kinda strange eh, tell me about it).

Unfortunately they are only available as Realmedia streams.

Apple and Adobe

Adobe have been working with Apple for the past 20 years with the Macintosh, making excellent professional software such as the well known Photoshop and Illustrator. Recently Adobe has been walking slowly away from the Macintosh by dropping certain software for the Mac and making it Windows only, this includes Premiere and FrameMaker, and possibly soon Photoshop. Will the partnership last or will Apple kick Adobe out with their new media and digital programs for the Mac?

Inventors of iPod user interface

CNET News.com has put together a short history of the inventors named in Apple's iPod user interface patent. The list includes Apple CEO Steve Jobs, Jeffrey Robbin and Timothy Wasko as the inventors. "Robbin was the primary author of SoundJam, the MP3 player to which Apple bought the rights in early 2000 as it sought to make up for lost ground in digital music after it looked past demand for CD-RW drives. Robbin moved to Apple with the acquisition and later took a lead role on the company's iTunes music download service.

iPod Case SuperReview!

There are a multitude of iPod cases available. Everyone has their favorite, but this is because we all have different uses. Some, want an elegant case for work, or a rugged case for play, and then the stylish case when working out or walking through the mall. Yes, we all have different needs. I got every popular case for the iPod and reviewed them all. This is my SUPER REVIEW! It has the cases from Marware, Think Different Store, iSkin, Digital Life Outdoors, Timbuk2, and Radtech, US. I sadly did not get any cases from Contour Design, or Speck Products This SUPER REVIEW does not have my usual personal opinions of each product, instead a rundown of features and how they help different people. Since each person’s tastes are different, I will try not to add my own thoughts. I actually recieved all of these cases and tryed them out a week for each case just to make a good honest review of the case. Let’s rock! More...

Review: Sportfolio II

When it comes to computer bags, there are countless choices. Of course, what kind of bag you like depends on your preference, needs, and your style. So, when I received the SPORTfolio II from Marware, I definetly took another look at computer bags. Most shoulder/ tote bags are uncomfortable, have little space or a huge amount of space, and the rest seem that the bag was designed without thinking of the needs that a computer user needs. Each of Marware’s bags have rated high on my list, and this is no different. The best features are the bag fits your notebook very well and keeps it snug and secure, as well as the soft well padded shoulder pads, and easy grip sides. More...

Goodbye BuyMusic.com

Originaly featured on spymac.com:
According to an e-mail sent to prior customers of BuyMusic.com, the online store will become "integrated" with its parent site, Buy.com, within several days. What this means to the fate of what was once called "The World’s Largest Download Music Store" is unclear.

Launched before iTunes for Windows, BuyMusic.com initially expected to sell one million songs per day, or 200 to 300 million in the first year, according to estimates by founder and CEO Scott Blum. When re-interviewed in December, Blum offered no statistics, but did say, "We’re nowhere near Apple’s numbers."

Review: Radtech PowerSleeve

Radtech, makers of the Podsleeve, ScreenSavrz and other products, have a great product to keep your Apple notebook safe from scratches or other elements. The PowerSleeve is a notebook holder made from Radtech’s patented Optex material, that can be pulled stretched, and even washed in a washing machine, and come out safe. Optex is very thin, and fits around your notebook well. This is not a case that can drop your computer and it come out safe, or a case you can leave out in the rain, but for every day traveling and toting, this is the best case for your money. The PowerSleeve makes carrying your computer just like carrying a binder, and removing the case, and putting it in your pocket is very simple. For most people, this is all you need. No you cannot put your power adapter in the PowerSleeve, but this case is best for most handling. Personally, I put my iBook G4 in the PowerSleeve, then into my Brenthaven or Marware bag. It gives me extra protections from scratches and other factors. At a great price, the Powersleeve should come with every notebook. The Powersleeve is available for every size of Apple’s notebooks. You can find out more and purchase your own at Radtech.us

Pittsburgh school district mulls iBook program cuts ...

Officials in Pittsburgh's Quaker Valley School District are thinking about scaling back an iBook program which would give about 1,700 laptops to third-graders through high school seniors, according to The Tribune-Review: "Officials said their options include providing the laptops only to students in the highest three or four grades, while using desktops for elementary grades. 'There is a question about whether younger students should have the responsibility of having their own computer,' district spokesman John Hanna said. Recent studies have found that younger students benefit less from having their own computers and that they frequently break or forget the equipment."

Is iPod mini really worth it?

I have been thinking about the new iPod minis; are they really worth it? First of all the cost is what was bugging me the most. A 15gb iPod costs 300$ and the mini costs 250$. If the mini is 4gb shouldn't the mini cost about 100$ then. In the mini you get only 4 gb and it cost nearly as much as the regular one. That is a problem. It doesn't even have a lot more of features than the regular one.
I think that the mini's are too small (at this point you must be thinking, its a mini shouldn't it be small). At this rate they should be making keychain iPods for maybe a bit less. (By the way, if they do, you know who thought of it first.) If the mini costed a lot less, maybe more people would buy it. (Picture courtusely taken from )

Apple Moves Worldwide iPod mini release to July

March 25th: Apple, in a press release today, announced they would move the iPod mini's worldwide release to July. This is two months later than originally planned. This is due to, "much stronger than expected demand in the U.S. far exceeding the total planned supply through the end of June". Apple PR manager Tim Cook said, "The iPod mini is a huge hit with customers in the U.S. and we’re sure it will be the same worldwide once we can ramp up our supply in the July quarter". It seems that Apple wants to have plenty of iPod minis in stock so worldwide customers can have their share with small delays. You can read the .

Review: The Speck Flip Stand

The All Clear Speck Flip Stand comes with a dock, a flipstand, and a belt clip. The flipstand protects the iPod from knocks and bumps. Flip open the scroll wheel door a little to change music selections. Flip it all the way and it becomes a desktop stand. Best of all, you never have to remove the iPod from the case.
The custom dock works with the iPod connector that comes with every iPod. The iPod can be easily seated and synched and charged all in one product. This product is extremely convenient and is an absolute must buy, it is only 29.95 in the Apple Store. This comes less then buying a regualar dock alone, Plus the stand looks really cool.
This product is not compatible for the iPod mini's. I think it is really easy to use and manage. It takes no skill at all to work this, plus it is very affordable at 29.95. My iPod is extremly precious to me and I want it to get the best protection which is the flipstand. (Picture courteously of )

Mac OS X Turns Three!

March 24th: Today marks the birthday of Mac OS X. Today, March 24th, marks the three year anniversary or our favorite OS. OS X was the first widely used flavor of UNIX, and introduced new technologies, .like Aqua, Quartz, and its core is ran on standards like Quicktime. Yes, Mac OS X has changed the way we compute. It has brought us into a new era of computing. Since it has been three years, we take for granted, that our systems are secure stable, and more user friendly than ever. We also don’t notice that we can easily run, UNIX, and java apps with no hitches. Of course, additions like the Dock, Fast User Switching, and a Finder that is so far from OS 9’s that it is barely the finder we used four years ago.
Apple has given us four installments of OS X, and with ten million native users, OS X is here to stay. PC users, were jealous of our software, our computers, and now they are jealous of our operating system. Happy birthday Mac OS X and we are glad you are still with us. If you were a person, you would be potty trained, on solid foods, and since your parents work full time, you are in daycare, and the other kids pick on you, but you are secure in your ways, emotionally stable, and very handsome. Keep up the good work!

xGrid 1.0 Preview Two Released

March 23rd: Apple released preview two of its xGrid software. xGrid is a software that allows Macs to share their processing power for one command. xGrid only works for apps that have plugins for it, but some apps have already been released with these plugins.

"Xgrid turns a group of Macs into a supercomputer, so they can work on problems greater than each individually could solve. You can let Xgrid operate in screensaver mode, so whenever you arenÕt working, your Mac can crunch away at some data set. Or if you have a group of Macs dedicated to the task, Xgrid makes it easy to set up a cluster that works around the clock, every day of the year."

What's New
"xgrid command line tool for submitting and monitoring jobs from the command-line
Message Passing Interface (MPI) support, allowing Xgrid to configure and launch executables linked against MacMPI libraries
Bug fixes include:
Various PrefPane improvements
Improved drawing of drop-down menus
Minor documentation and UI corrections
Longer timeout for submission of large files
Efficient redrawing for large node lists
Local mode support in Xgrid BLAST
Scoring matrix usage with protein searches in Xgrid BLAST
Viewing of non-UTF8 output in Xgrid BLAST"

Apple News: iChat AV 2.1 Released

March 24rd: Apple released the 2.1 version to its iChat AV software. A beta of this software was released last month but many issues with users that resulted in errors and crashes forced many users to revert back to iChat AV 2. iChat 2.1's key enhancement is interoperability with AIM 5.5 users on windows, and video / audio conferencing with them. This is a monumental release in the fact that windows users can chat with us now. If they have an iSight they can video chat with us in full 30 frames per second.
iChat AV comes free with Mac OS 10.3 (Panther) or costs 29 dollars for OS 10.2.6 (Jaguar) users.

The updates is available via your software update preference panel or Macupdate.com

iTunes Music Store Overcharging?

Some news sources reported the N.E.R.D. album selling higher, but in our surfing of iTMS, we have noticed other albums. 10 out of 25 albums have yielded 12.95 - 18 dollars which is way above the 9.99 per album price. Has Apple changed their policy?

Review: Trailer Tracker

March 23rd: Moviegoers love trailers. They love the sneak peaks of movies months before they come out. There are a few websites, that give you the ability to see all of the upcoming movies but you have to view them in your browser with ads, and there is minimal control. Wouldn't it be nice to see all of the trailers from on your computer? Well, now you can. WithTrailer Tracker fromMireth Technology.
Trailer tracker enables you to see all of the latest movie trailers, then download them to your computer. From there, you can open the trailers in quicktime, and with QT pro, you can see the movies full screen! I love to download movie trailers, but in Safari, I have to hit command+opt+A, then find the movie address, then with Speed Download, get the movie. Trailer tracker downloads it and plays it quickly and easily.
With a small price of $9.99, and a free demo, you can view all of the latest trailers, withouth launching Safari.

Roxio Ships Toast 6 With Jam

March 23rd: Roxio issued a press release today, Toast 6 with Jam is shipping. Announced at MacWorld San Francisco this past January, they are finally shipping the product.

More Info

Now, here at MPG, we have a question. Some of our staff was at MWSF in January, and used Toat 6 with jam. It worked great! There were not many obvious bugs, and no visibile issues with the applications, so why is it the end of March, almost three months later, and they are just now shipping the product? If anyone knows why this is, or why companies do this, let us know at.

It no longer has the software update function included. 2.3.3 also includes an updated and optimized Speed Download plug-in for better compatibility, as well as support for downloading files over 1GB. DD News: McDonalds and Sony

Sony today announced that they have taken part in a $30 million marketing deal with McDonald's to promote its new music store. Sony's last-minute pitch cut Apple out of the picture, for it was Apple who was going to do this before. "One person familiar with the McDonald's deal said the fast-food company would probably give away more than 100 million Sony Connect songs in the U.S. McDonald's had been in talks to launch a similar marketing effort with Apple, but switched plans after a last-minute pitch from Sony, sources said." Also, Sony "has already announced a deal with United Airlines in which travelers, once the Connect service starts, will be able to trade in frequent flier miles for free songs," according to MacNN. --DD News

MPG News Announcement

March 22nd: MPG is going to slim down on news reporting. Instead of posting every computer related story we can find, we are going to use Differentdistrict’s news stories, and then we will report only the best news. We want to be known for our editorials and review skills overall. Instead of refabricating news from other sources. They work hard to report news, and we were just putting it on our site. As of now, we are having a lot of our time taken up by project “CypeTest”. CypeTest is our 1.0 release of MPG. Currently, MPG is in .7 beta, and we are adding things weekly. Due to our “real lives”, we have to work on this site part time. If you are a writer, artist, or have knowledge of PHP, feel free to contact us, so we can have more people working on the site, and accelerate the advance of MPG. With your help, the redesign will go a lot more smoothly. Thanks to all of you who have signed up, and visit the site on a regular basis. We are here to please. Don’t forget you can get MPG clothing, to help us pay the bills.

Buy one iPod get 10 free!

March 22nd: An anonymous reader has sent us a way to buy one iPod, then for the next two years, keep getting and iPod every month or less. All you have to pay is 50 bucks!

"I purchased a 5gb iPod November of 2002 from CompUSA. Remember you have to buy from CompUSA, do not buy from anywhere else. I got the 2 year replacement warranty for 15% of the cost of the product. You can get this warranty on many peripherals, so just use this same idea, on any mice, keyboards, webcams, whatever. Anyway, the replacement warranty was 50 dollars. About 3 months later, my battery was not holding a charge, so I took it to CompUSA, and they gave me a 10gb. Being that the 10Gb costed the same as the 5, the credited me 299, and gave me a 10gb. I just payed 50 dollars for a new warranty.
After the 3g iPods came out, I went to compUSA, and did the same thing for a 15Gb third generation iPod. I just paid 100 dollars to pay the difference of a 399 dollar iPod, and payed the 50 dollar warranty again. Finally, when Apple had the 20 gb iPod Third generation, I did the same thing, and did not have to pay 100 dollars, just payed to renew the warranty.
In short, one year later, I have owned four iPods, and have only payed for two. This may be cheating the system, but if you iPod does not work, it is a good no questions asked way of getting it replaced. This. like i said, is trues with most peripherals at CompUSA."

The previous submission, does not reflect the views of MPG, and we do not suggest anyone do this. None of the staff or members of MPG have done this, and do not plan on doing this.

We have it so good

We have had it first. First mouse, first graphical interface, first CD burners, and first inexpensive means of wireless networking. This is not to mention the fact we have the best music player, best software, best OS, and the most beautiful computers that just work. So why is it that Mac users always get pissed at Apple if they don’t release a new or updated computer every 3 months, or don’t sell an item at the price range you like. Deal with it! Apple is a company. Their sole purpose is to make money. As Mac users, we are spoiled with the best stuff, but when things don’t go our way, we automatically complain. More...

Frustrations of a PC User

March 18th: (Censored for unsuitable ages)
At the gym last night, I over heard someone cursing at their MP3 player. “S**t, this piece of crap! It has never worked! Why do you keep freezing?!” After this guy stops his workout 5 times just to reset his Dell Digital Jukebox, I finally look over and say, “don’t you wish you had bought an iPod”. Ok, it was kind of rude of me, but he knew I was right. He chuckled and explained that it was a Christmas gift and he could not help what was under the tree. I let him use my iPod and he loved it. He said, even if he could only afford the 15-gigabyte iPod, or mini, he would rather carry fewer songs with him than to deal with the frustrations of his current MP3 player.
It was funny to hear John Doe explain his frustrations. After discovering I was a Mac user, and telling him that my computer never crashed and it was rated the most secure operating system in the world, he came to the realization that even if Microsoft Windows is not on it, anything a PC company makes whether it be a computer, PDA, MP3 player, or even a calculator will not work, freeze, and eventually break completely. He said, “why is it when Apple makes something it always seems to make sense and work?” This guy had obviously had it with anything a PC company makes. Maybe I helped someone switch, even though I did not make them switch, I was a person to listen while they figured out that Pcs suck and Apple computers are the way to go.
He also wished that he could use the iTunes Music Store. They have all of those exclusive tracks and he can’t buy them to listen to on his Dell Jukebox. What a shame.

Powermail 4.2

Powermail is the fastest e-mail client i have ever seen. I first installed this app to find a pretty cool interface. Okay, not as cool as Apple's Mail or Gyazmail, but pretty cool. I setup my e-mail accounts. (Which took about 3 minutes for all of mine.) And, pressed "Connect."
In about 10 seconds, all my e-mail was in the right positions and was easy to read.
CTM Development has been working on Powermail for over 3 years now and I must say that this is their best release yet. Keep up the good work, CTM Development!

DD News: Apple introduces "Spoken Interface" Technology

Apple announced new "Spoken Interface" technology designed to vocalize and make audible everything that visually happens on a desktop. The software is like screen-reading software--the last of which was discontinued for the Mac last summer, according to BusinessWeek: "And even better, unlike traditional screen readers, Apple's technology will be built right into the next version of the OS X operating system. That will be a big help. For starters, the price is sweet. Spoken Interface won't cost anything extra because it'll be part of the core OS. Screen readers for Windows can run up to $1,000, on top of the cost of the computer itself." Apple has posted an online user survey, which it says will help it develop the technology, which will be included in Mac OS X 10.4

Panther Update is a good kitty

Our staff, as a whole has installed OS X 10.3.3. We have had no problems, and continue to work on our machines with no issues arising. The machines we have installed it on are, iBook G4, iBook, Powerbook AL, Powermac MDD, and an eMac700. It is safe to say 10.3.3 came along with no problems. In fact, a few of the issues we were having with the finder crashing, and networking peeves and how you had to browse through the network to find out what for which you were connected and now the servers are shown on the desktop or sidebar. Many other internal changes were made, but the update was a good one. Of course, you can still wait, to get this 58 megabyte download, but on the whole it feels good.

The Next Step for Movie Viewing

In the past twenty years, big steps have been made in the enhancement to motion pictures, and how we view them. Movies, even in the eighties, looked like movies. They looked like they were not real, and this was due to quality of film, lack of technology in the post production realm, and techniques for filmmaking. Those factors made for a “not so real” picture on the big screen, but when you bought a VHS tape and brought it home, the quality was even worse, and it was two channel audio, and the aspect ration was off; it was a horrible way to view movies. Mac OS X 10.3.3 Released into the Wild

Apple, today, released Mac OS X 10.3.3 update. Whipsers of this release have been floating around the Mac WEb for months. Apple has not been quiet about the update, however. They have been seeding weekly builds of the update to developers. 10.3.3 has many changes listed below. This is the first heft update and is expected to fix many problems users are4 having and update existing technologiers. There are major changes with video cards, network browsing and some core apps. The update also has the previous security updates and the Bluetooth 1.5 update for those of you that have not downloaded those as of yet.

The initial release of this to developers caused serious issues with the 20" iMac and was pulled for a few weeks. MPG cautions all users that a system update may cause problems with your system, i.e. 10.2.8. It is best to let the "early adopters" install the updte and after a week if no major problems have been reported by the news sites, then it is safe to say you pose a lesser risk of having issues with this major update.

At a rather large 58 Mbs, this update may also carry some interface changes.

If you have any problems with thisupdate, email MPG at

"The sequel to last year’s hugely popular Unreal Tournament 2003, Unreal Tournament 2004 takes gladiator combat to a new level with the addition of land and air vehicles, an arsenal of new weaponry (including mines, rocket-propelled grenades and stationary gun turrets), daunting new arenas, epic battlefields and the challenge of the Assault and Onslaught game types. UT04 also adds the UnrealTV broadcast system, which allows hundreds of people to log on and watch famous combatants duke it out, and the return of the mighty Skaarj as a playable race."

DD News: Fortune rates Apple iTunes 'best'

Fortune has just rated nine legit online music services, and above all of them, they said Apple iTunes is "best". The article compares all 9 of the major music stores, on restrictions, cost per song/album, subscription price, audio quality/format, size of music library, and media player. iTunes was rated the best of all of them, for it uses the best format, has the most songs, and is all part of the same great player.

DD News: Jobs Drops His Powerbook

image An insider told The Different District that Apple CEO Steve Jobs let his PowerBook take a fall. Job's 15" Aluminum PowerBook cracked, right down the middle. This was not a problem for Steve Jobs. He just had his co-workers gut it out, and put it in a brand new one! Lucky him; I wish someone was there to give me a PowerBook when mine stopped working!

DD News: iDVD and External Burners

image Well, we have done it again. Yes, contrary to popular belief, it is possible to burn a DVD on Apple's iDVD program with an external DVD burner. Just follow these easy steps: 1) Download this file. 2) Uncompress, and put those 2 files in your home folder (make sure they are by themselves, without an enclosing folder). 3) Goto iDVD and Control-click on the burn button. 4) Save as an image. 5) Burn that image to a DVD. Congratulations, you just burnt a iDVD DVD with an external burner!

AdobeCS shipping with PageMaker Plug-ins

image As a member of the graphics industry, the one complaint of moving to Indesign from PageMaker was the fact graphic's professionals cannot open their PageMaker docs with Indesign. The adoption of InDesign was slow in part due to this problem. Many design firms that have been around for 10 or more years do more reprints of old jobs than new, so it is important they keep the old pagemaker program and have to keep using OS 9 to open the old jobs. Adobe, at Macworld Expo SF, finally created a solution to open PageMaker 7 documents in Indesign CS. It took until version 3 of Indesign for Adobe to do this, but "better late than never". If you purchase Adobe CS, you will receive the PageMaker tools free of charge. We researched and did not find an upgrade to the pagemaker tools plug-in for those of you who purchased Adobe CS or InDesign CS Standalone before this announcement. We suggest contacting Adobe directly and asking them for the plug-in pack.

iTunes Music Store: 50 Million Downloads

March 15th: Apple said in a press release this morning, iTMS has reached 50 million downloads. "Crossing 50 million songs is a major milestone for iTunes and the emerging digital music era," said Steve Jobs, Apple's CEO. "With over 50 million songs already downloaded and an additional 2.5 million songs being downloaded every week, it's increasingly difficult to imagine others ever catching up with iTunes." The reason for Apple Success is they are the only company to offer a complete solution for digital music. You Purchase->Manage->and Listen to your music. There are other companies trying to create an iTunes-Like product but only Apple makes it easy. notes users are downloading 2.5 million songs a week.
Back in October of 2003, Apple was averaging 1.7 Million downloads a week, but now that Apple has a Windows version of iTunes, that number has doubled. The story also notes that this number does not factor in the caps redeemed from the iTunes Pepsi Giveaway. The giveaway(which kicked off on February 2nd) is a partnership between Apple and Pepsi(which to this day sells "sugar-water to kids"), and their effort to give away 100 million free songs. Of course, not all of those will be redeemed, but they are sure as heck going to try.
Steve announced last May that by May of 2004, Apple would have sold 100 million songs on iTunes. It is the middle of March, 2004 and they have sold 50 million. Let's hope that the caps from the Pepsi iTunes giveaway boost that to 100 million songs by May. Steve hates to be wrong on his numbers and if 100 million is not reached, "someone will be fired".

Macworld SF Attendance numbers Released

image March 12th: Maccentral and Macminute reported on Friday, the numbers for Macworld SF '04 back in January were finally released by IDG. Supprisingly, the numbers are dramatically lower than 2003's expo. IDG spokesperson noted that, "IDG World Expo's new President, David Korse, wanted to put a standard in place where the attendance at all of our shows could be audited by a third-party," Warwick Davies, IDG World Expo group vice president, told MacCentral in an interview today. "Doing that, we had to change the practices that were performed before in calculating attendance."
The final numbers released were 32,409 people as compared to last year's 90,473. While I was at Expo this January, people were telling me about the new system and said the numbers would be drastically lower due to this system. It is my understanding that Macworld Expo would count people coming in and then out each day. If this was the case, I would show up at 8:30, leave at 11 for lunch, then come back untill the end of the day. So if you leave for lunch, the numbers are doubled right there. It is good to have a standard in place and next year should yeild higher numbers.

DD News: Nation's Highest Rated CEO makes $1?

image In a poll ran by forbes.com earlier this year, Steve Jobs had the highest approval rating of any CEO. Yet, his salary is extremely low. Steve took a $1 salary in 2003, as he has since 1998. This may sound strange at first, but you must realize that he received $74.75 million in restricted stock in exchange for his outstanding stock options in March 2003, . Apple "did not pay Jobs, who is also a co-founder of the company, any new stock options or cash bonus in 2003. No other executive received stock options in 2003," Apple said, in the report. "Employees received merit increases, but executives have not received increases in three years, other than through promotions." Honestly, this shows a lot for this CEO. If the company does well, then he makes money in bonuses; if the company does poorly, then Stevey make a lot less. In a world of money squandering CEOs and board members, and overpaid chief officers, it is good to see someone that actually cares about their company and will not risk it's downfall just so they can get a high salary.

DD News: Sony Ericsson releases new phones

image Sony Ericsson today released a brand new flagship phone. The new phone, called the S700, has a compass-style design with the same "swivel action" rotating display introduced by Motorola. Unfortunately, it won't be out until the fourth quarter, but it sets the bar pretty high because the new phone sports a 224k color screen, Memory Stick, Bluetooth and megapixel camera with 8x zoom. Arriving even sooner (the 2nd quarter) will be the K700, a 93 gram phone that features a 176x220 pixel display that can work in landscape mode. It also comes with an FM radio, VGA camera with 4x zoom, and a handy 32MB of memory. In common with most new Sony Ericsson models, it includes Bluetooth, but the company is touting the Media Viewer which was also introduced today: "a Bluetooth bridge that allows you to run presentations from the handset, and view photos and play MP3s stored on the handset on a TV or projector." -- The Register. The new phone certainly blew me away, go check it out and see for yourself!

Microsoft is set to show the beta version the Windows XP Service Pack 2.0 next week. But, while it might be a show stopper for the Las Vegas conference, the beta will not find its way into the grubby paws of us until around until April.

While Microsoft still continues to wrestle with Service Packs and the continued delays for the next Window version one cannot help wonder just where OS X will be in 2004/2005.

DD News: Xserve G5s Delayed

image Apple has confirmed that the shipping date for its new Xserve G5 has been delayed. "We've received an incredible amount of customer interest for the new Xserve G5 1U rack-mount server since it was announced at Macworld Expo in January 2004," Apple said in a statement to MacWorld.uk. "We're working hard to start shipping the new Xserve systems in March 2004, not by the end of February as originally announced." No further details were given. This announcement is disappointing, for it reminds us of what happened last year, when Apple originally released the G5. Hopefully, they will not ruin a chance to succeed at creating a fast server.

DD News: MyTunes Disappears Quietly

.image MyTunes, the popular music downloaded app (would download songs from your friends iTunes), has disappeared off of the internet. MyTunes originally came out when iTunes came out for Windows. CNET News.com reports that "the popular software has all but vanished from the Net, and its programmer's sites have gone dark. But this time, it's not the doing of an angry record industry or a conflict-averse Apple. Trinity College sophomore Bill Zeller, who wrote the program in less than two weeks of off-time coding last year, says he simply lost the source code in a catastrophic computer crash." Zeller said: "I was about to release the second version, when I lost everything. I may put it back online, but there won't be any updates. I don't want to rewrite it." It seems Apple Legal was at it again, and they didn't want any hacks for iTunes. The deveolper's site, Drunkenaardvark.com has also gone blank

DD News: Apple Refuses French MP3 Tax

image A very popular French Macintosh site, MacGeneration.com reports that Apple refused France's MP3 tax. France charges a 10 pound (about $22) tax on MP3 players under 40Gb, and a 10 pound one on MP3 players under that. The iPod definitely fits this. Apple refused to comment, and it is unclear if the 40Gb iPod will disappear from shelves in France. The tax law was implemented in July 2002.

Stamps for E-Mail

Microsoft's Bill Gates is suggesting that computer users should be required to buy "stamps" in order to send e-mail. "If the Postal Service delivered mail for free, our mailboxes would surely runneth over with more credit-card offers, sweepstakes entries, and supermarket fliers. That's why we get so much junk e-mail: It's essentially free to send. So Microsoft chairman Bill Gates, among others, is now suggesting that we start buying 'stamps' for e-mail."

Sync with USB Flash Memory Stick

Just thinking, I now have one of these little portable flash USB sticks, and was thinking, it would nice if I could use iSync to sync data to it regularly.

A simple addition to iSync that allows you what you would like to sync with the stick, have it be a particular, files, address book, would be pretty nifty.

Anyone know if there is something out there?

MPG's Kickoff is going well

Right now, MPG is in its infancy. You, the reader, should feel proud to be a part of "something big". I have to update everyone on our site.

Members
MPG's home page has five writers and twenty members. Our forum has 35 members.

Advertisers
We are using Google's ad program and looking for others that want to do a banner exchange or sponsor our site. It will be about two months before we are able to pay other sites for an ad campaign. If you would like to sponsor, MPG email the webmaster at:.

Exposure
We have been featured on Applelinks, amacsite, and differentdistrict. In fact, we have gotten deals with different district to share news coverage and certain reviews/editorials. We also have an exclusive deal with macupdate.com to link all of the latest software to macupdate.com so our users can download from there. Negotiations are taking place with other sites, I will keep you updated. Once again, if you have a business deal for us, feel free to contact the webmaster.

[i]If you are interested in contributing to MPG; we are looking for a graphic designer/ webdesigner with knowledge in PHP and MySQL. We also would like a female writer of any age that can tackle the issues women of tech deal with and give a "woman's touch" to our site. The open writing positions are not discriminating other ages or genders, but I want a very diverse group with different view points and opinions. Lastly, I am looking for a full time forum moderator to accompany Neal_C and a person to post the latest news during the day. All inqueries email, .

The MPG team is excited about this release, and in only a couple of weeks, we are seeing fantastic growth. We will keep you updated with all of the latest mac and tech news.
